What if I told you that UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was a well documented reformer who had been in “hot water” with the board for the last year because he lowered UHCs profit margin from grossly obscene to obscene by increasing customer service.

He based his strategy on the idea that if they were a better company for their clients they would get more clients. To get this done he had been threatening the board to expose some of the truly terrible policies they had passed before he got there.

What if I told you that because he was affecting the bottom line it was the board of UHC who manipulated Luigi Mangione to kill Thompson under the guise of attacking “the system”.

In reality the killing did several good things for UHC at once.

1) removes the CEO who was trying to reform the business.

2) makes the insurance companies seem like victims

3) promotes the idea of less corporate transparency in fear of personal retaliation.

Who benefitted the most from Thompson’s death? UHC the company.

This is of course all hypothetical — but it’s another reason I oppose vigilantes. They don’t know the whole story.
